Week 2

Yeah we made it through week 1, however the start of week 2 is looking quite average - well the weather is. We left Bagara at 10 this morning and had a good start for the first couple of hours then the weather set in. We are heading to Landsborough near Maleny (north of Brissy - Glasshouse mountains area) a place near "Bald Knob" to be exact, we arrived at 2pm, so not a bad run, the car went heaps better. We have no idea whats doing! Good on fuel - around 400km's to 60L, heaps better than last weeks towing effort. I did drive the car in manual mode so maybe this had something to do with it. Also, no 2nd gear issue. I also used a different brand of diesel (maybe should have done it one at a time) but the end result was much better.
By the time we had the van parked and half set up it was 4 o'clock (beer time for Dom, again!) I don't know how high up we actually are - not very I don't think - but these photos were taken at 4 in the afternoon, the mist / fog / what ever was very different, it seemed like it was 6am or something.
Well here's hoping that the sun will be out tomorrow.

Just thought we should put a photo or two of the cat in, he gets a bit whingey of a night time - he just wants to get out - but other than that he is quite at home - as you can see.

Week 1 part 2

Wednesday we went down to Woodgate, a quiet little area and the beach is very nice. The track to the beach was heaps of fun (see video), because of the rain it was 2WD, but still heaps of fun. The track went for about 5km's and is 4WD only - mostly because of the wheel rutts - the sand was still soft and dry in places and if it was totally dry it would have been even more fun. The weather was still a little average, but the wind was blowing over the sand which made the sand look awesome. We went for a nice drive up and down the coast (how can driving on sand be so much fun!?) The beach was full of shells and we were the only people on it. We did see another person at a camp site on the way in - just one of those little spots I suppose (if you don't go, you'll never know)
Thursday the weather was average again, just took Jessie for a drive and a run - another lazy day (early beer for Dom)
Friday was fishing day. Dom went down to Elliott Heads (previous pictures) to try his luck. Fresh fish for dinner - we wish, damn fish must have had a day off. We would have been better spending the money on fish n chips, at least we would have had a feed! LOL But it was a nice way to spend half a day - sitting by the ocean enjoying the view and waiting for the fish - after all, it could have been worse, we could be working!!

First Stop - Bargara QLD

We had a lazy day on Sunday but did manage to get to the Bundy Air Show, it was pretty cool, that Aussie dude that does the RedBull air racing was awesome. Monday was average, the weather has turned to crap, blowing a gale & showers, so not much on - early beer for Dom. Woo Hoo! Tuesday the sun came out, the wind stayed, but still a nice day. We drove to Elliot Heads, the beach/cove area is tops - looks like some good fishing! We took Jessie for a nice long walk and just wasted some time (because we can). Well, that's our first couple of days, we'll let you know how the rest of the week went.
P.S. The car seems fine, we think the auto was just getting a little hot, even though it shouldn't. We'll soon see when we hook the van up again. Keep you posted!

Our first day - On our way

Sooooo, we are finally on our way, and what a great start we had. The cat totally FREAKED out and disgraced himself in his carry tray. So, before we even made it to Tannum, there we were, on the side of the road, clean up the mess (Hint: anyone thinking of travel further than around the corner with an old cat that has rarely travelled, sedation is your friend). So, we were soon back on our way, with a much calmer cat once we let him out of the cage to roam freely around the car - well, sort of. Of course, then we had the fact that the car decided to get stuck in 2nd gear - TWICE - to deal with, and aren't roadworks in sunny Queensland just a joy!? Dom did a great job towing the van and, if it wasn't for the copious amount of fuel that we consumed, I wouldn't have even know we were towing it. But we finally made it to our destination. The people are great, really nice and extra helpful - the guy running the place will even park the van for you if you want him to. Dom did it himself - good practice  - but I thought that was pretty cool. We've had a chat with our neighbours and met the regulars - I think us newbies made their day, with all the advice they were giving us! lol. Anyways, off to be lazy! Keep you posted!
